What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment method that involves the insertion of thin, sterilized needles into specific parts of the body.   This is done to resolve illness, alleviate pain and promote well being. It can be associated with the application of heat, pressure or laser light to these same points.  It is commonly used for pain relief, though it is also used for a wide range of other conditions.

Most people correlate acupuncture with pain management, and while it is extremely effective at providing relief, it is also a successful way to treat physical and emotional ailments. Traditional Chinese Medicine views pain and illness as being the result of blockage, excess or deficiency of Qi (energy) that runs throughout the body.  Needles are used to resolve this energetic imbalance so that the body can return to a state of harmony. Other Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques such as Gua Sha and Cupping also improves the results when used in combination.

Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine which maintains a holistic perspective of the human body.  By promoting the belief that everything within is interconnected; no single part can be separated from the whole. Therefore balance within the body can only be achieved by treating the physical, emotional and mental bodies as one. We believe in the core tenets of this holistic ideology and provide each patient with the individual attention necessary to enable and promote healing.  This is why we rely on multiple modalities including acupuncture to improve patient results, speed healing and promote health as a whole when we treat our patients.
