Food Sensitivity Testing – Find the Cause of Your Health Issues
Food sensitivity testing is important, and here’s why. Having been in practice for 15 years now I have treated almost every structural problem you can think of; Sciatica, Rotator Cuff Syndrome, Migraines, Stenosis to name just a few. But what all of these conditions have in common is that Food sensitivities could be the main cause of them. I have had numerous patients who after eliminating foods they were sensitive to; had complete correction of their structure problem. Yes Food Sensitivities can cause much more than digestive issues.
The most common Food Sensitivities that I test for in my practice are Gluten (Wheat, Pasta), Casein/Lactose (Milk, Cheese), Nightshades (Tomatoes, Peppers, Potatoes), Corn, Eggs, and Caffeine/Chocolate.
For testing I prefer and utilize Applied Kinesiology testing which I have a lot of success with in identifying food sensitivities and then confirming by having patients implement an elimination diet over the next 30-60 days. There are other forms of testing; blood, DNA and skin prick testing which I have used in the past but these can be expensive, not 100% accurate and change as the gut lining heals itself. Please also realize that food sensitivities are not the same as food allergies (ie peanut, seafood etc.), these allergies are affecting a different part of the immune system and the allergic symptoms are immediate unlike food sensitivity symptoms which can be much more subtle and affect different parts of the body.
Food sensitivities can come from genetics, leaky gut, infections, deficiency in HCL production/enzyme deficiencies and a number of other reasons. Numerous athletes (Tom Brady and Novak Djokovic) have recently reported the benefits of restricted diets and the improvement of sport performance and reduction of injuries by staying away from their food sensitivities. Unfortunately a large portion of my patients are unaware that the food they are eating is sometimes the main contributor to their health problem.
It is sometimes difficult to correlate that a food protein or toxic metabolite can cause inflammation not only in the gut but just a specific part of the body. It is also difficult to live in today’s fast pace world of convenient food options which a lot times contain multiple foods which can cause significant inflammation in the body. But the reward of resolution of symptoms outweighs this inconvenience when the patient realizes and makes the connections of how a specific food affects them. I have witnessed the following symptom corrections; significant weight loss (without changing caloric intake), reduced blood pressure, migraine reduction, correction of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and eczema clearing in weeks; just to name a few. The results are sometimes unbelievable.
If you have been struggling with a chronic health condition and are motivated enough to explore all options you owe it to yourself to investigate food sensitivities as a possible contributor to your health problem.
